INTERIM HOME CARE UTAH
Nursing Care for Veterans: How to Choose the Right Provider

We've written generally about skilled nursing options. This is about the veteran-specific paths, and how to choose between them.
VA-Funded Skilled Nursing: Home-Based Primary Care
For veterans with complex, ongoing medical needs, Home-Based Primary Care sends a full VA medical team — led by a doctor — into the home. This is the most medically intensive VA-funded option. Full guide.
VA-Funded Skilled Support: The H/HHA Program
For less intensive but still medically-directed support, the Homemaker/Home Health Aide program can include home health aide tasks alongside daily support, funded through VA's Community Care Network. Full guide.
Private Duty Nursing, Privately Arranged
Outside VA-funded programs, a veteran can hire a registered nurse privately for skilled tasks — billed at skilled-nursing rates, without VA eligibility restrictions but also without VA funding. Full guide.
How to Choose Between These Paths
If the veteran is enrolled in VA health care and has documented complex medical needs, start with a VA referral conversation before assuming private duty nursing is the only option — VA-funded paths can meaningfully reduce cost if you qualify. If VA's specific criteria don't fit your situation, or coverage isn't intensive enough, private duty nursing remains available.
Questions to Ask Any Nursing Provider
Confirm current licensure, specific experience relevant to the veteran's condition, and whether the provider works within VA's Community Care Network if that's relevant to your funding situation.
How Interim Fits In
We're primarily a non-medical home care agency, with an RN Care Professional option and experience coordinating alongside VA medical teams for veterans who need that layer.
Our 7th Week Guarantee
No long contracts. If you don't feel the difference after six weeks of care at 20 or more hours a week, your seventh week is free.
