Veteran Homecare Services: What We've Learned Caring for Families

We've written generally about choosing a good home care agency. This is specifically about the questions that matter when the client is a veteran.
Ask Directly: Is This Agency an Approved VA Provider?
Not every home care agency works within VA's systems. If you're hoping to use VA benefits like the Homemaker/Home Health Aide program, confirm the agency is part of VA's Community Care Network before assuming it applies.
Ask About Actual Experience With Veteran Families
An agency that regularly works with veterans understands things a general agency might not — VA referral processes, coordinating with VA medical teams, and often a genuine cultural understanding that matters to veterans and their families.
Ask How They Handle VA Benefit Coordination
If a veteran is using multiple benefits — Aid & Attendance alongside private-pay hours, for instance — ask how the agency handles that coordination, and whether they can help you understand how the pieces fit together.
Consider Veteran-Owned Agencies
Some home care agencies are themselves veteran-owned, which can mean a more direct, lived understanding of what veteran families are navigating — worth asking about directly if it matters to you.
Standard Quality Questions Still Apply
Everything that matters for any home care agency — caregiver training, background checks, a real guarantee, transparent pricing — still matters here too. Veteran-specific considerations are additional, not a replacement for basic quality vetting.
How Interim Fits In
We're service-disabled veteran-owned and an approved VA provider, part of the Community Care Network — this isn't secondhand experience for us, and we're happy to walk through exactly how VA benefits could work alongside our care.
Our 7th Week Guarantee
No long contracts. If you don't feel the difference after six weeks of care at 20 or more hours a week, your seventh week is free.
