• Infections generally — urinary tract infections, skin infections from reduced mobility, and other infections become more common and more dangerous as the immune system and overall health decline.
• Complications from immobility — blood clots, pressure injuries, and their downstream effects become more likely as movement becomes difficult or impossible.
• Malnutrition and dehydration — eating and drinking challenges in later stages can compound other vulnerabilities.
