Frequently Asked Questions

Can you do 24/7 care?

Yes, when someone needs help, there's no way to predict when they will need it the most. Having someone there around the clock is the best way to ensure they are safe.

What service do you offer?

We are a non-medical home care agency. We provide assisted living type care but in your home--where most people prefer to stay.

Do you service veterans?

We are one of the few agencies certified by the VA to provide care for veterans. In fact our owner Michael Hawkins is a disabled veteran who has received care from the VA. Serving veterans is very special to us.

Can you help me access VA funding or care?

As a service disabled veteran owned company we have researched the benefits available and can help you find someone to help you apply, but we do not help directly with the application.

Are you certified to provide dementia respite care?

Yes! We are certified by CMS as a provider of the Medicare GUIDE program which includes 72 hours of respite care to those who are eligible

Can you help me understand all senior care options?

Absolutely! Our goal is to help you find the best senior care option for your situation. That's why we created the matrix that shows the most common options and evaluates them among each of the 19 common scenarios, so you can quickly see what's best for you. See it at www.interimutah.com/options

Does Medicare pay for you?

Sometimes, while Medicare doesn’t usually cover ongoing home care, there are programs like dementia respite that may apply.

Do I get consistent caregivers?

A consistent caregiver is our goal. But it is important to understand many caregivers rely on this work to provide for their families. If the hours you need are not sufficient, a caregiver might leave when a better opportunity to provide presents itself. If that happens, we work very hard to maintain a roster of additional caregivers so we have options to ensure you get the care you need.

How to you screen caregivers?

All of our caregivers are first interviewed by a live human (only about 20% make the cut), we then have a thorough criminal background check run, that updates every 24 hours.

Do you do background checks?

Yes every caregiver must pass a thorough criminal background check system that runs and updates us every 24 hours

Can you manage medications?

Our license allows us to be mindful of medications and remind to take them and report if they do not but we are not allowed to administer medications.

Do you require contracts?

We don't believe in loyalty through contracts. We expect you to remain loyal to us because we earn it every day. And if we don't, we think you should be free to explore other options.

Are you licensed and insured?

We have been and are licensed under the Utah Department of Health since 2014. We also carry general liability insurance and workers comp insurance.

What areas do you serve?

We cover the whole state of Utah. Caregiver shortages is a challenge so it is harder for us to serve areas farther from cities. We are especially strong along the Wasatch Front, Tooele and Summit Counties.

Do you have an hourly minimum?

We do--we have found most people want consistency with caregivers and caregivers have the job to provide for their families. Caregivers are not very loyal to short shifts so we have 2 minimums, 4 hours minimum per shift and 12 hours minimum per week. Because of consistency challenges, our rates are higher with fewer hours so we can pay caregivers more. As hours go up, the price comes down.

What if we don't like our caregiver?

Meeting a new caregiver is always stressful, for the client and the caregiver as they learn to adjust to each other. In our experience, the bonding will happen naturally and eventually you would not want anyone else. We ask to give the caregiver a couple weeks to learn your likes and dislikes and adjust to you. If after that it is still not a good fit, we will gladly do our best to find someone else.

Do you provide hospice?

We are not a hospice provider but many people we care for are also receiving hospice care. Hospice is a beautiful service, but very limited in time--maybe 1 hour of care per day, most families want more help so they hire us to provide more care along with the hospice agency.

Home Care vs. Assisted Living?

Assisted living is right for some and not right for others. You may not realize that the home care service we provide is the same exact level of care as found in assisted living but different in 2 important ways: First we bring the care to your home so you don't have to leave your familiar setting. And our care is 1 on 1 where a single caregiver may have 15-20 residents in a facility. So when you need help in a facility, you might have a long wait.

Do you help with wound care?

Our license is for non-medical care, we help someone with activities of daily living so they can remain safe and independent at home. Wound Care is deemed to be outside of the scope of our license, so if that's what you need help with, unfortunately we are not the right agency. We are a home care agency, you want a home health agency.
