INTERIM HOME CARE UTAH

Getting Started With Home Health and Hospice Salt Lake City

Care Professional supporting a family navigating serious illness care at home.

If you're navigating a serious illness in the family, these three terms — home health, hospice, and home care — get used interchangeably, but they're genuinely different services with different roles.

    Home Health: Skilled, Medical, Recovery-Focused

Home health is skilled medical care — nursing, physical therapy, wound care — delivered by a Medicare-certified agency, typically time-limited and aimed at recovery or managing a specific medical condition at home.

    Hospice: Comfort-Focused, End-of-Life Care

Hospice is a different kind of medical care, focused on comfort rather than cure, for someone with a life-limiting illness and a physician-estimated prognosis of six months or less. It includes medical management of symptoms, emotional and spiritual support, and support for the whole family, not just the patient.

Non-Medical Home Care: Daily Support, Any Stage

What we provide is non-medical — personal care, meals, mobility, companionship, and daily support. It doesn't require a medical diagnosis or prognosis, and it can run alongside either home health or hospice, filling the hours a family needs beyond what those medical services cover.

How These Work Together in Salt Lake City

A family managing a serious illness often needs more than one of these at once: hospice managing medical symptoms and comfort, non-medical home care covering the daily physical presence and support hospice visits don't provide continuously. We coordinate directly with hospice teams rather than working around them — this is one of the most common ways families use our services.
